Editorial

Annie is over – another show bites the dust … and onto the next one. (There is definitely no rest for the wicked.) So, now the clichés are out of the road … it’s on with the show!

Our next production in the Abbey Theatre is the CATS production of Clowning Around. After this is our Christmas production, Little Shop of Horrors. So, dust off your wallets (release those moths) and be prepared to spend some money between now and Christmas.

“Clowning Around”

This year’s annual CATS production is on stage in September. For more information, click here.

Thank You - "Annie"

Our last production in the Regent Theatre, as you will know, was Annie, and we’re sure you all came along and saw this wonderful production. Thank you for your support. If you didn’t see Annie – shame on you! You missed a great show which showcased the current talent in Palmerston North, especially our young and upcoming stars. And then there was the dog … who could not have fallen in love with Ted (Sandy) Thank you also to everyone involved with this production – without you all, we wouldn’t be able to stage the high calibre productions we are known for.

Board Member

For those of you who may not have heard, we have a new Board member. Val Andrew has joined the Board to replace Joanne Steward. Welcome aboard, Val.

Administration Office – Reduced Hours

Please note that the Abbey Administration Office will be operating on reduced hours from 29 August through to 26 September 2003 inclusive. Messages for the relieving Administrator during this time can be left on the Abbey Office answerphone (355 4165) or on email (admin@abbeymusicaltheatre.co.nz).

Tables for Sale

The old dining tables from the Abbey auditorium (which seat 10 people) are available for purchase. These are good, solid wooden tables and would be excellent for either a BBQ or hobby table. (We have been advised that they are also great for dancing on – as long as you are in the middle – or for building the barricades, when rehearsing Les Misérables.) These tables/barricades are selling for $40.00 each. If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact the Abbey Office on 355 4165 between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. (see above for reduced hours).

“Little Shop of Horrors” Cast

Auditions for this year’s Christmas production were held last weekend. Cast details can be found here.

Things You’ll Never Hear Said in a Theatre! – By the Singers

  • Let’s not talk about me!!!
  • I’m sure someone told me there was a wall here – I just forgot.
  • Without the crew the show would never run. Let’s thank them.
  • No thanks, I don’t drink.
  • Really, I think my big aria should be cut.
  • This costume is so comfortable.
  • Let me sing that down here with my back to the audience.

Things You’ll Never Hear Said in a Theatre! – By the Stage Crew

  • I don’t need this many on the crew.
  • All the tools are carefully locked away.
  • No, no, I’m sure that is our job!
  • There’s room for that over there.
  • That lamp is not in the way.
  • We’ll get in early tomorrow to do it.
  • Can we do that scene change again please

Ways to Spice Up Your Night at the Theatre

  • Sell bits of Fantine’s hair as a souvenir in the lobby during intermission at Les Mis.
  • Tell people that Marius only got his part because he slept with the Director.
  • Ask the cast of Les Mis what it is like being in an Andrew Lloyd Webber show.
  • Toss marbles on the stage at Starlight Express.
  • Bring half a locket to Annie, jump on stage and claim to be Annie’s mother or father.
