Warmth (or the severe lack of it) seems to be the topic of conversation everywhere you go at the moment – especially in the Regent Theatre where most of us are camped out for My Fair Lady rehearsals. Rehearsals are going extremely well and we hope you have all booked your tickets as it promises to be a grand affair. So come along and support your fellow members – on opening night you will be able to walk the red carpet used by “The Lord of the Rings” stars at the Wellington premiere. Dress up in all your finery (watch the mothballs as you unwrap the posh frock) and join us for a night of splendid entertainment. Tickets can be booked at Ticket Direct (at the Regent) and the show runs from 6-21 August 2004.
"My Fair Lady"
Like a crackling fire on a cold winter’s night, My Fair Lady brings light, warmth and a touch of romance to all who see it.
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady is a gloriously witty musical about Professor Henry Higgins who takes a bet from Colonel Pickering that he can transform unrefined, dirty, Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into a lady and fool everyone into thinking she really is one, too. He does, and thus young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford-Hill falls madly in love with her. But when Higgins takes all the credit and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy and, suddenly, Higgins realises he’s grown accustomed to her face and can’t really live without it.
Full of humour and charm, My Fair Lady’s sparkling book and magnificent Lerner and Loewe score includes lush melodies and timeless musical treasures such as I Could Have Danced All Night, The Rain in Spain, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly and Get Me to the Church on Time.
Directed by Robert Rimmer, with musical direction by Barry Jones and choreography by Anoushka Vlcek, My Fair Lady stars well known local performers such as Val Andrew, Dave Mahoney, Richard Mays, Steven Sayer, Karl Perigo, Caroline Robinson and Audrey Osborne, accompanied on stage by a company of over 40 people.
Don’t miss this stunning, all new production of one of the best musicals ever created.
